Schuco
The firm Schuco was founded in 1912 as "Schreyer & Co" in Nuremberg by Heinrich Schreyer and Heinrich Müller. The latter had previously worked at the Bing toy factory. Schreyer left the company in 1918. In his place came Adolf Kahn. In 1924 the name "Schuco" was registered; it was derived from the original name: Sch(reyer) u(nd) co.
In 1936, the company produced the first Schuco car, which stood out for its great technical precision and remarkable design. In the same year, the company's workforce grew to more than 100 employees. Under Heinrich Müller's influence, the quality of the model cars continued to increase and the workmanship improved. Müller developed mechanical clutches and mechanical steering by wire.
Despite good sales, the company had to be sold to the British DCM group in 1976. In 1979, the factory went bankrupt. Since 1980, Schuco has been based in Fürth. Gama-Mangold took over the rights and manufactures replicas of Schuco models. In 1996, Märklin bought the Gama brand name (along with the Trix name) and Schuco became independent again. In 1999, Schuco was sold to the Sieber company in Fürth.
