    A fresh wind is blowing through the model railway world: as of March 1, 2026, Sommerfeldt will take over the complete order processing and global distribution of the traditional brand Seuthe. This step secures the future of one of the most renowned manufacturers of model railway accessories.

    When Seuthe unexpectedly announced last year that it would cease operations at the end of 2025, it caused great concern among hobbyists and manufacturers. For decades, Seuthe has been considered the standard for steam and smoke generators. Losing these components would have had major consequences — not only for end users, but also for the many locomotive manufacturers who integrate Seuthe generators directly into their models.

    The newly announced collaboration with Sommerfeldt now brings clarity and continuity. Production of the well-known heating elements and steam distillates will continue at the familiar factory in Eschenbach. Sommerfeldt, however, will take over logistics, distribution, and commercial handling, integrating them into its existing company structure.

    Sommerfeldt is known as a market leader in high-quality catenary systems and pantographs, while Seuthe specializes in realistic smoke and steam effects. Two niche markets that both require extensive technical expertise — and complement each other perfectly.

    This step ensures that an iconic brand remains part of the hobby, giving model railway enthusiasts worldwide the confidence that the trusted Seuthe smoke generators will continue to be available in the future.
